Description

Name: Pompeii VON Gauge
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Species: Human Cyborg
Height: 5'5"
Weight: Around 180 lbs

Appearance:

Pompeii stands at average height and has a bulkier body type. Her limbs are fairly thick with some muscle tone to them. Her right arm is amputated above the elbow and usually has a robotic prosthetic arm attached to it. She has medium length, thick red-burgundy hair. Most of her facial features are quite round, including her face shape, nose and eye shape. Her eyes are coloured black, however her right eye is blinded so it appears somewhat “glazed” over. She usually wears a prosthetic lens embedded into a gear over her blinded eye, which allows her to see fully.

Vagabond:

Pompeii spends her early years growing up in an Orphanage. Whether she is truly an orphan or was abandoned by her family is unknown. Other children at the orphanage end up bullying her by saying she was abandoned by her family due to being a “cyclops” on a count of her being blind in her right eye. Even though she is quite hurt by this, she eventually learns to defend herself and doesn’t allow herself to be bothered about the status of her family. However even to this day she will still be enraged if anyone calls her cyclops. She begins to hide her non functioning eye with an eye-patch, which ends up giving her a more threatening appearance that gets people off her back in the long run.

Around the age of 14, she gets sick of the abusive conditions of orphanage and leaves along with another group of teens and children. Most of them get found and returned back to the orphanage, or end up disappearing, leaving Pompeii on her own. She roams around The City of Roma and steals things in order to survived, but is eventually caught and exiled out of the city into the Wilds for her crimes.

She joins a caravan and travels from township to township, learning to hunt, gather supplies and otherwise protect herself. To shield herself away from potentially abusive drifters, she grows to become quick witted and guarded, putting up an incredibly sarcastic, smartass front as well as not being afraid to get physically violent if need be. Many years of this grows her into quite a skilled and strong fighter. To pass the time, she’d tinker with scrap machinery and sing to herself.

Farewell to Arms:

One day Pompeii strays too far from her caravan while gathering supplies and is attacked by a pack of mad dogs. She fights them off the best that she can but her right arm ends up badly mauled in the process. She passes out due to shock and the last thing she sees before she goes down is another figure also fighting the dogs off with a pistol.

Pompeii later awakens in a strange bunker with a robotic boy looking over her and immediately becomes frightened. She then soon notices her arm has been replaced with a cybernetic prosthetic and becomes enraged. The boy introduces himself as Monte, says he is there to help her and attempts to check her condition. She refuses, proceeds to back not allowing him to get too close to her and demands that she leave him alone.

Some time passes and Pompeii realizes that she does indeed need help and allows Monte to check on her. When Monte prompts her on who she is, Pompeii only tells him her name and nothing else. He takes care of her for a short time, helping her learn how to control her new prosthetic.

Monte eventually asks Pompeii about her eye and states he could probably fix it. Pompeii once again refuses help and states her eye has been like that as long as she can remember, but isn’t sure if she was born with it or if something occurred to cause the blindness in infancy. He ends up ignoring her refusal and constructs a prosthetic eye out of a gear that, when worn over a blinded or damaged eye, will give corrected sight. She is stunned with both amazement and confusion that Monte could easily build such a device as a gift, despite Pompeii’s initial rudeness towards him. Realizing that Monte truly does want to help, Pompeii calms her defensiveness slightly.

After some time passes, Pompeii is fully healed up and able to control her robotic arm, and is told she can leave at any time to go back to The Wilds. Consumed by guilt (unbeknownst to Pompeii), Monte then offers to let her stay with him and in exchange for working, would keep her fed and sheltered. With some reluctance, Pompeii agrees, knowing fully well how caravans and outlanders reacted strongly against cyborgs.

Teamwork?:

After telling a bit about herself and her life to Monte, Pompeii prompts Monte to tell her more about himself. He says he is merely a humanoid robot who is tasked to stay in the bunker and run experiments. Despite having suspicions about this explanation, Pompeii seems to accept the answer and leaves it at that.

Pompeii has a hard time getting along with Monte, continually mocking him and otherwise starting arguments. Much to his irritation, she gives Monte the nickname of “Sooty” due to the letters S.U.T. being engraved into his back-panel. She initially has difficulty dropping her guard but after a while starts being kinder to Monte, although she does still heavily teases him.

Pompeii is later on allowed to help Monte with repair work around the compound as well as go out on supply gathering missions. In the long run they become close friends, though Pompeii still suspects that Monte is hiding something from her.

The Good, The Bad and The Whatever:

  • Like Monte, she has a love for music. She often sings or hums to herself while working.

  • Pompeii has a motherly side that enjoys taking care of others. She would often take care of the younger children in the orphanage. She sometimes pushes this side onto Monte, which he finds overwhelming at times.

  • She is quite proficient at repairing mechanical work, but is still fairly new to the idea of building things from scratch.

  • She has a strong love for space, specifically stars. However due to the massive amount of lights emitting from the city of Roma, it makes it difficult to see any stars from most locations on the island. Thus, she has rarely been able to see any stars.

  • When not doing dirty work, Pompeii can be quite picky about her appearance. She enjoys looking her best.

  • After years of living as a vagabond, Pompeii continually keeps up her guard to protect her from getting hurt. As a result she can appear to be quite narcissistic and sarcastic.

  • She refuses to search out or learn the status of her family because she believes the end result is the same: The events of her life have made her who she is, and she likes who she is, and knowing what happened to her family will not change anything.

  • Pompeii is quite thick skinned but is still sensitive to either being called a “cyclops” or hassled about her weight.

  • Pompeii has a strong phobia of worms, however other insects do not seem to bother her.

  • She can become quite neurotic, and is easily frustrated when things aren’t just right.

  • Her robotic arm contains incredibly strength and is able to transform into various tools and weapons, such as an arm cannon.

  • She has a bad habit of talking people’s ears off and tends to ramble frequently.
